Robert J. Keeshan was not only the first Clarabell but also the beloved Captain Kangaroo. Plucked from the NBC Page staff by Bob Smith, "Bobby" was thrust into national prominence by at first handling a few props on air. Forbidden to speak "because that would cost extra," he was also assigned a clown costume that became Clarabell. Here is The Captain's personal script library for his own show from 1958-1965. There are 25 hardbound volumes with a total of over 500 scripts. Each are loaded with Mr. Keeshan's hand-written notes and some display his personal bookplates. Also included are three rare vintage "TV" books distributed to NBC employees at the dawn of TV. They are personally vintage signed "Robert J. Keeshan." To cap this off, an important handwritten letter from Buffalo Bob thanking "Bobby" for some nice words in a film clip used to honor him.
