Captain Marvel Adventures # 87 - Super-Hero Comics From The Golden Age ! Captain Marvel Adventures # 87, 1948 - VG 5.0 The original superman with the skin-tight outfit, Captain Marvel returns in this atomic powered adventure. This issues' cover is not as interesting as when the Captain flies out into space but it will do. The cover is by C.C. Beck . Editor - Wendell Crowley . The cover story is also the first story, titled Captain Marvel and The Electron Thief , drawn by Pete Cotanza , and written by Otto Binder , has our famous boy reporter Billy Batson fighting off the man who wants to control all the radio stations in the world. Seeing as how he has cornered the market on electrons, perhaps he can do it too. Captain Marvel saves the day and in a rare display of serious violence, kills the criminal. Holy Moley! Next up, Captain Kid , who doesn't look as much like Archie in the earlier Captain Marvel issues, stars in Too Many Robin Hoods . Al Liederman writes and draws this one. Capt. Kid needs a good costume for the Podunk masquerade ball. A case of mistaken identity occurs. Come on, who didn't see that coming. Next up, Shazam . You've heard of a stolen pocket book, a stolen diamond, a stolen painting. But you'll be amazed when Captain Marvel gets involved in the fabulous adventure of The Stolen City . I believe it's Otto Binder doing the writing and Pete Costanza doing the art work with the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the Speed of Mercury and number 2 pencil. A text science fiction space opera story called Tiny Terror, A Jon Jarl Space Policeman Adventure is up next, written by "Eando Binder" . Also features a half page Tightwad Tad in Beans To Him and Dopey Danny Dee in Machine Minded . A fact based illustrated article called Fabulous Facts About Snakes is next. Lastly in The Wonderful Iron Horse , Captain Marvel takes on some unsavoury characters at the race track. With a hundred thousand dollars at stake, it's no wonder the crooks come up with a mechanical horse to out-run the real horses. But can it out-run the world's mightiest mortal? Win and find out. The GCD reports that this story was drawn by Pete Costanza . This issue is completely unrestored and I am the original owner . From a smoke free home. Important Note: This is the Canadian Printing/Edition published by in Canada. This issue is only 36 pages, not 52 so it may be missing a story that was in the US edition. Printed in Canada. 36 pages. - The interior pages are at OWL 8-9's! . Only a hint of tanning at edges. Would have grade at Fine except for the back cover. - The front cover has tiny nicks at all edges. The top corner has a tiny triangular tear, the bottom corner has a very small crease. Light smudging towards the bottom of the book, faint crease marks near the spine. Good cover reflectivity even though the Canadian publishers used inferior paper stock. - The spine has only a hint of a roll, staple stress and lights nicks. Slightly abraded ends, with the bottom end having small chipping. - The back cover is mildly faded and has a dust shadow at top edge, smudging at left edge and near middle, staining at left edge and near bottom right corner, very slight top corner crease.
