We continue offering items from a consignment that have been in a Southwestern New Hampshire family for years, as we have now discovered, back into the first half of the 19th century. My consignor explains; "To the best of my knowledge my family were primarily farmers in Dublin, NH. There were several generations living on the farms at the same time. Farm income was supplemented by various means. Hiriam Carey was the Dublin carriage driver for Mark Twain and my Grandmother was a seamstress who also made costumes for the likes of Amelia Earhart and Joseph Linden Smith during their stays in Dublin. Though there may not have been a lot of money to purchase luxuries' or non essential items sometimes the family was given small things for either payment or in appreciation. My mother and grandmother were founders of a local button club and since my grandmother was a seamstress who made costumes for the Dublin Art Colony plays many of their special collected buttons were remnants of other peoples' purchases." Here we have a card, approx. 9" X 12" with 16 buttons ranging in size from 1/2" to 1 1/2" in diameter. Another great selection of buttons including large celluloid on metal with gold leaves and vines, a delicate little silver, maybe sterling, filigree piece, a larger pewter escutcheon on vegetable ivory, colorful iridescent black glass
