The Carl Barks Library - Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories VII Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories 31-94 VIII Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories 95-166 IX Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories 167-229 X Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories 230-405 The Carl Barks Library of Walt Disney’s Donald Duck – Another Rainbow, 3 books per boxed set. In 1983 Another Rainbow took up the daunting task of collecting the entire Disney comic books, reprinting Carl Barks — over 500 stories in all — in the ten-set, thirty-volume Carl Barks Library . A chronological reprinting of all of Carl Barks material in full color! Carl barks joined the Disney Studio in 1935, starting as an artist, and after 6 months transferred to the story department as a “gag” writer. He worked mainly on Donald Duck cartoons. In 1942 a storyboard for a planned Donald Duck feature length cartoon, Donald Duck Finds Pirate Gold, became a comic book story appearing in Dell Four-Color #9. For those who want to secure a quality reproduction of the “good duck artist” in artwork and stories in his prime, you cannot go wrong with any or all of these volumes. These oversized 9 X 12 inch hardbound volumes reproduced Barks´ pages in pristine black and white, as close as possible to the way he´d originally drawn them, and included mountains of special features, articles, reminiscences, interviews, storyboards, critiques, and more than a few surprises. Covers and reproductions of Carl Barks Duck oil painting are in color. The books are in excellent condition; there is some fading on the slip cases. This monumental project was finally completed in mid-1990. By the mid-1950s Walt Disney Comics and Stories was the best selling comic book in the United States, with a monthly circulation of over three million. The anthology format usually began with a 10-page story featuring Donald Duck and for most of the run ended with a serial or single story featuring Mickey Mouse. The most popular issues featured the Donald Duck 10-pagers written and drawn by Carl Barks who began the run with issue #31 (April 1943) and ended with original stories in issue #312 (September 1966) but have been continually reprinted up to the present. Almost all of these stories co-starred Donald's nephews Huey, Dewey & Louie, with frequent guest appearances by Barks' greatest creation Uncle Scrooge, as well as the Beagle Boys, Gyro Gearloose, and Gladstone Gander. Included are articles by Jack Hannah, E. Barbara Boatner, and Donald Ault.
