Carl Barks Red Sails in the Sunset Donald Duck Painting Original Art (1974)

Pricing & History
Carl Barks Red Sails in the Sunset Donald Duck Painting Original Art (1974). Taking his cue from the title of an old Bing Crosby tune, Carl Barks recreates one of his best-loved covers, from Walt Disney's Comics and Stories #108, in this magnificent oil on Masonite painting. This classic image of Donald Duck and his nephews happily drifting away in a tiny sailboat was in fact the first one Barks chose when he began his series of Disney Duck paintings, and was a theme he returned to several times due to requests from fans. This one has the distinction of having the most dramatic lighting of any of the sailboat paintings. The colors of this particular version are exquisite, ranging from deep warm red to brisk pale blue, with special attention paid to the briny green ocean and creamy whitecaps. The painting, which appeared in The Fine Art of Walt Disney's Donald Duck, features an image area of approximately 14" x 18", and carries the designation CB OIL 87, and Barks gave it the code name 74-19. The painting is housed in an ornate frame which measures 24" x 28", and is in Excellent condition. If Barks Ducks are your thing, you couldn't do much better than to put a bid on this ducky masterpiece! From the Kerby Confer Collection. Grade: 0, Service: Uncertified, Service No.: 1380850
