Biography: Carl Sammons was one of the noted early California Impressionists. He was a long-time resident of the San Francisco Bay Area and a prolific Plein Air artist. Sammons is known best for his California representational landscapes and coastal scenes. While much of his work was done in California, he traveled and painted throughout the West. In his early career, Sammons painted Tonalist pastels and some sources list him as a Pastelist. However, around 1920 Sammons added vivid color and Impressionistic brush strokes to his repertoire.
