WELCOME Thank you for visiting! This interesting " Carl Schneider Erban" piece from the 1900's is a great porcelain figurine with a lady emerging from a carriage while the driver holds the horses still. A gentleman stands bowing with flowers and hat in hand. The mark in red on the bottom is a crown and two horizontal bars over a "G" with "1859" below and was used fro m1886 to 1951 and possibly even to 1973 when the company closed. It is also incised on the side with "Germany 19436". I was told by the owner that it belonged to her mother-in-law and was purchased in the 1940s. This is a vintage reproduction of similar figurines made in the mid-1800s with more refined porcelain. This victorian style figurine is made with a flat back so that it could be displayed up againgst the wall. This figurine is in good condition with no chips or cracks. It measures approximately 10" long, 5 1/2" wide and 7 1/2" high. NOTE: It is heavy enough to also be used as a bookend and would hold several books smartly on your bookshelf. A bit of history about from Porzellanfabrik Carl Schneiders Erben (1886 until 1951) Carl Schneider's son Paul had joined the company as junior partner around 1880. He took over the shares and continued business together with Hutschenreuther who had been long making arrangements to open his own company. Impressed by the young Schneider , he helped Paul reorganize business until before he finally left to open his own company, the Hermann Hutschenreuther G.m.b.H. in Probstzella during 1886. Together with the rest of the family, Paul Schneider decided to name his business 'Carl Schneiders Erben' in honor of his father and also introduced the crowned and dated version of the company hallmark.
