This is a very rare opportunity to buy a complete Carlton Ware "Smoker's Set", comprised of an Ashtray, a Lighter and a Cigarette Box. The pattern is also an unusual one - "New Bird of Paradise" which has Birds of Paradise in flight, with buds, blossoms and butterflies. It is lovely! The Ashtray is 4 & 3/4 inches square and 1 & 1/8 inches deep. It has four little "plastic feet" to protect any surface it stands on. The base colour is matt black and the upper edges are beautifully gilded and there are two curved indentations for cigarettes on the right and left hand sides. Its decoration is a spray of 1 fully open and 1 part open flowers with buds in a lovely warm pink, with foliage in gold and two shades of green, a Bird of Paradise in turquoise, with touches of orange and gold, and a butterfly with yellow and orange spots and gold edging. The main areas of colour almost resemble enamelling. The condition of the ashtray is excellent with just one or two tiny firing faults in the black base colour that are only visible under very close scrutiny. The Cigarette Box is 2 & 1/2 inches square and stands 4 & 1/2 inches tall of which the lid is 7/8 of an inch deep.
