I collected oil lamps for many years and this is one of my favorites. I can tell you a couple of interesting things about it. I bought it years ago from the family who claimed their father had bought it new and it had always been in the dining room of their old farm house. (the house w I bought the lamp) They also said that the chimney and burner were the ones that came on the lamp. I can tell you that this is an older chimney in that it does not have the little mold bump that is present on the base or top rim of the reproduction chimneys. Whether it is the original chimney to this lamp is hard to say. Chimneys were often broken over the years on an often used family lamp. The burner assembly is another subject altogether. I have handled literally hundreds of old kerosene table lamps and this is the only one I ever saw with the name of this manufacturer. It is embossed "Macbeth - Newtype" on the wick guide and "MADE in USA" on the turning knob. This burner was on this lamp when I acquired it and I have no doubt it was original to this particular lamp. I have seen 3 or 4 of these carnival zipper loop lamps but they all had new burners on them which were bright and shiney. This burner was nearly black with soot and oxidation. I have cleaned it up just enough to be able to clearly read the printing on it. It will still function perfectly well. T was no wick in the lamp when I got it and I never put one in it. I have owned several old kerosene table lamps which had wicks which were made up of 2 or 3 old short wicks which had been hand sewn together to save having to buy a new one. Thrifty folks back then. Well enough of this. This lamp has just spectacular color for its type. Often the base will have v ery little marigold color. This is the best color on any that I have seen. It is now time for this beautiful old girl to find a new home w she will be loved and appreciated. Thanks for putting up with my meandering and for your interest.
