Painting helps me understand what is me and what is not" (Southwest Profile 5/97).Born in 1951 in Maine, Caroline received her art education from 1969 to 1972 at the American Academy of Art in Chicago on a scholarship from the Chicago Union League Civic and Arts Foundation. She has also had private study with her aunt, Bettina Steinke, and with Richard Schmid and Sergei Bongart.She has taught art classes at St. Johns College in Santa Fe and at The Scottsdale Artists School in Scottsdale, Arizona. She is also an art teacher and writer and wrote a book titled The Art of Painting, an academic book on the principles of painting.
