Old Irish whiskey bottle by Mitchell & Co. Belfast Ltd. – PO/18C I have for sale a 1950's era CARSTAIRS WHITE SEAL bar ashtray or catchall For The Man Who Cares that was used in a bar. The piece is a heavy plastic base with a metal White Seal - the red ball is some type of plastic or composite. The metal White Seal is screwed into the base (you can see in pictures). The base is approx 9 ½” in diameter and 1 ½” high. The White Seal with the red ball on his nose is 5 ½”tall but sits on another black base that is 1” heights so the overall height of the piece is 6 1/2”. Marked a few times around the outer edge in red lettering is CARSTAIRS WHITE SEAL – and in smaller white lettering is For The Man Who Cares . There are plenty of spaces to lay a cigarette. Also has very small writing stating 86.8 Proof Blended Whiskey 72 % Grain Neutral Spirits – in red writing Condition: There are some scratches on it from use and some scuffed white paint on the metal seal and red ball. There are also three crack like lines to the inside of the ashtray which seem to be from the tightening of the screws, this is only to the inside and not the whole way through, see photos. Also as shown some of the writing / decoration around the outer rim is rubbed / faded. This is a rare American piece from a bygone time, classic advertising that’s for sure. Thank read more
