Carte du Mexique et des Pays Limitrophes situés au Nord et á L´Est General description An exceedingly important map of the Southwest, including Texas and California, by one of the most influential explorers of the 19 th century An exceedingly important map of the Southwest, considered a cornerstone by Streeter and covering most of Central America, the Caribbean and southern United States. The map has become one of the most significant maps of the region of the first half of the 19 th century, made by Humboldt along with his Carte Generale du Royaume de la Nouvelle Espagne during his stay and travels in Mexico. Having been received favorably and invited by the Spanish Crown, Humboldt had access to virtually most sources of information, even unpublished ones; hence it includes the most up-to-date information available at the time, particularly of the territory under the influence of the Viceroyalty of New Spain (Mexico, New Mexico, Texas and California) and thus, under the influence of Spain. The map was published in Humboldt´s Essai Politique . Title on lower left corner, blank verso.
