Hello and welcome to my auction. I suspect that many of you have often seen squirrels, busy gathering their winter supply of hardy big acorns, field corn, berries, and so on. They are quite amusing to watch as they so accurately jump from limb to limb. I believe I mentioned this before, I raised a grey squirrel. He was so very small when he was brought to me. He had gotten blown out of his nest in a heavy wind storm. He was but the size of a golf ball when he curled up to sleep. In fact, he was so small , that I had to feed him using a eye dropper. The tiny pet nipple was too big to fit in his mouth. I named him chitter-chatter. When he was young, he spent most of his time in my shirt pocket. I had to wear flannel shirts as he insisted on staying close to me. He grew to be a big plump healthy squirrel. Even when he was fully grown, he insisted on being close to me. He would curl up around my neck every night and go to sleep. I do not recommend trying to raise a squirrel. Under the circumstances, I had to, but believe me, it is a job! More importantly, squirrels need to be in their natural elements, scurrying about gathering nuts, taking a afternoon siesta way up in the crotch of a tree somew, and enjoying the woods, their natural habitat. And so for this auction, I have carved a black squirrel using vintage black bakelite. He is on a big oak limb that I carved from a nice marbled brown vintage bakelite. Maybe he is eating one of those hardy acorns! I have secured him with metal pins -these go through his feet and into the oak limb. I attatched a bronze colored chain to put the dangles on. The 3 oak leaves are all carved from vintage bakelite. I used 3 nice colors. T is carmel, yellow, and red. These dangle nicely from the chain. I also decided to incorporate a few amber colored beads to the chain. These 3 small beads are not bakelite, but they look very nice. they give the leaves an added touch. This is a very wearable pin measuring 1 & 7/8" wide, and is 3 & 1/2" long. I would like to mention that the tip of the pin shows in the pictures. This is because I had to take the pictures over head to prevent a glare on the leaves. In the back view picture, you can see that the pin is centered well. As always, I have signed and dated this pin on the back. Please remember to add me to your favorite sellers list. Thank you and God bless, Kit Killingbeck.
