This is guaranteed vintage bakelite, it tests with 409 and hot water. I carved this myself and this is my fifth piece (of bakelite), I usually carve alabaster rock. I am still acquiring old bakelite stock and am working with some smaller pieces right now. This chickadee brooch is very intricate and was very hard to carve. This piece measures 2 1/2" wide and 2" topto bottom. All the black pieces on the birds are pieced together. The eyes are glass beads, and the white lines in the feathers are painted. The pieces are laminated together and the entire piece is laminated onto a white piece. I bought it as bakelite and while it does smell, the back piece does not test with 409. All of the other pieces will test, flowers, willows, and birds. Carved from vintage bakelite, I am doing one of a kind pieces from on out, as a career. This way I get to keep carving which is what I love to do, and still sell my pieces at an affordable price. I have some other bakelite stock I am working with and my next piece may be a very chunky green and yellow bakelite bangle with hummingbirds and inlaid bakelite flowers. My name is Kit Killingbeck. My husband is giving me a BUNCH of crap about carving these pieces, I would love to make a career out of this, as of now he is still chuckling, I want to have the last laugh!
