This is not a new bird but it is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The paint is bright and not faded. This is not a cheap balsa wood carving. The wood is quite heavy and the parrot weighs over two pounds. The carving appears to be one piece of wood with nothing pieced or laminated together. I don't know what the wood is but it is the color and weight of maple. The neck of the bird has the words "Hecho en San Pablo de Loreto" on one side and "Rio Amazonas Peru" on the other side. The area that this bird is from is noted as one of the greatest biodiversity areas in the world. It has numerous rare butterfly species and over 1000 bird species which is about 15% of the birds on the planet. This is probably a native crafted souvenir piece of folk art that someone brought back from their Amazon trek. The bird is 22" long by 5 3/4" high. He displays very nicely and is quite stable, resting on each foot with pointed wood carved toes and long dragging tail plumage.
