I am a Case XX knife collector selling my personal collectionbecause of advancing age. I open each auction at $.99 with no reserve, so every collector has a shot at a bargain. This is a truly beautiful mint CASE straight knife called a 516-5 SSP. It is 9” long overall and comes with a mint sheath also. The blade is 5” long. The SSP stands for stainless steel with a polished edge. In late 1976 Case made its first set of stag handled knives that could actually be identified as part of a set. They were sold in 1977 as the gray set or gray etch set. Each knife in the set had a "Case xx Razor Edge" etch on the blade. T were 7 folding knives and 4 fixed blade knives that made a complete set. The interesting thing is: 15,000 of each of the folders was made, but only 5,000 of the straight knives. The fixed blade knives are three times rarer. Handles: The handles are wonderfully matched full figured burnt stag. T are no handle cracks or chips. Blade: The blade is satin finish stainless steel with a saber grind, and a polished edge. This knife is mint. Check the pictures to verify this for yourself. The original factory sharpening grind can be seen on the blade. This is a vintage, superb, large hunting knife. I like this particular straight knife because it has very sleek and elegant shape. You will agree that this is a vintage beauty read more
