CHRISTMAS TIMES A COMING!! Up for auction is a vintage Case BULLDOG Folding knife #5172 complete with its presentation case. This is another purchase from dear ole uncle's estate of which I know little-similar to the Schatz clock on another auction of mine. I have done a little research on this knife, however. I do not know how to ID a transition knife as some called theirs, but I do know this one has no dots which apparently began in 1970. It is most closely identified with the 1965-69 era when the tang stamps are CASE XX over 5172 on the front & Handmade in USA on the back. The blade has etched CASE XX BULLDOG with Bulldog drawing. The Stag handles are thick & beautiful! It is in its original case which is dark & probably mahogany or walnut. It is 9 1/2" long when open & 5 1/4" closed. The bulldog on the blade does not have any black in it (some do) & the blade looks a little unfinished in places. Please see pix!! I know uncle never sharpened any of his 100 or more knives-just bought them & stored them away. I would say it should be mint except it is different from some others as mentioned above. (Maybe a factory mistake?) I can't give many specifics, as us girls don't carry knives, but if you will email any questions, I will attempt to answer.
