CAST IRON BLACK JOCKEY GROOM LAWN STATUE

UP FOR AUCTION IS A CAST IRON BLACK JOCKEY GROOM LAWN STATUE, âeoeBLACK JOCKO GRAVES STATUEâe THE FAITHFUL GROOMSMAN!

THIS ANTIQUE STATUES MEASURES 10 1/2âe INCHES TALL, 3" INCH'S WIDE AT THE BASE AND WEIGHS BETWEEN 7-8 POUNDS.

HE IS MADE OF CAST IRON AND WEARS AN OFF WHITE JOCKEY OUTFIT WITH A RED VEST, YELLOW TIE AND A RED JOCKEY CAP.

HE HOLDS A BLACK RING IN HIS RIGHT HAND FOR HOLDING A LANTERN. THIS STATUE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH A FEW SCUFFS/ PAINT CHIPS. T IS NO RUST. I'M NOT SURE IF IT'S ORIGINAL OR A REPRODUCTION.

THE STORE BEHIND JOCKO GRAVES I THAT DURING 1776 WHEN GENERAL GEORGE WASHINGTON CROSSED THE DELAWARE RIVER TO IMPOSE A SURPRISE ATTACK ON THE BRITISH, A YOUNG AFRICAN AMERICAN BOY WANTED TO SERVE AND FIGHT FOR GENERAL WASHINGTON BUT WAS DENIED BECAUSE OF HIS AGE.

THE YOUNG MAN WAS GIVEN ORDERS TO STAY PUT ON THE PENNSYLVANIA SIDE TO TEND TO THE HORSES AND KEEP A LIGHT ON THE BANK OF THEIR RETURN.

THE YOUNG BOY FAITHFUL TO HIS POST AND HIS ORDERS, FROZE TO DEATH STANDING ON THE RIVER BANK DURING THE COLD NIGHT WITH THE LANTERN STILL LIT IN HIS HAND.

GENERAL WASHINGTON WAS SO MOVED BY HIS DEVOTION TO DUTY THAT HE HAD A STATUE SCULPTED AND CAST OF HIM HOLDING THE LANTERN AND HAD IT INSTALLED AT HIS
