This sterling silver pin is in the form of a bumble bee. It measures 1 1/2" by 7/8". The end of his wingtips and the end of his body are bent slightly downward. His legs curve downward also. This is not a defect. He was designed this way to give him a more dimensional look. The enameling of his body begins with black at the head, followed by alternating bands of narrow yellow and a wider golden tone, and then followed by black again. His wings are bordered with the same yellow enameling and the center of the wings are a burnt orange. This pin is in very good condition. Any white spots on the photos are due to the flash, not enamel loss. It is marked on the reverse "Castelan 0925 MEX STERLING". Below that is the "Eagle" mark, and upon the eagle's chest is the number 15. The "Eagle" mark was instituted in 1948 and put to rest in 1979, so this pin would date somew between those years. The number 15 on the eagle's chest would designate either the city of assay or an individual maker. In this case, I believe it is the maker's mark, and I think the city of assay is Mexico City.
