NO. 66171 NO. 32/A ITALY Dimensions: Bowl Height: 1 15/16" Overall Pipe length: 6 3/8" Bowl outer diameter: 1 5/8" Chamber width: 7/8" Chamber depth: 1 3/4" This is a pipe for collectors and lovers of Italian smoking pipes. The shape is a perfectly executed Canadian, with oval shank, tapered stem and the telltale bowl shape beloved by so many. The pipe auctioned is a Castello rusticated briar pipe in the famous Sea Rock finish. Perhaps Sea Rock is the most famous rusticated finish in the world of pipe smoking. The wonderful shape and texture of this pipe complements the form, curing, engineering, feather-light weights, and superb smoking qualities marking the Castello brand. Little wonder many knowledgeable collectors put Castello on par with Dunhill as the two greatest factory production pipes. T is much to justify love for both Dunhill and Castello. Such a pipe today would retail from $400 and up. The bowl capacity is at least a group 5. That said, this is a feather-light pipe and easy to hold in your mouth, despite its wonderfully long profile. The stem is made of Lucite and has a few surface tooth-scuffs that will buff out with ease. The stem is hand-cut, thin and very comfortable. The engineering is spot-on, from the drilling at the bottom of the bowl to a pipe cleaner passing with ease. Fit and finish are excellent. This is pipe is worthy of any collection. A thin cake has been left to protect the bowl and deliver a more pleasant smoke. The exterior of the stem has been cleaned with 90% alcohol.
