Historical Blue Staffordshire "Castle Garden, Battery NY." dark blue transfer decorated cup plate.Shell Border, impressed with makers mark, "Enoch Wood & Sons Berslem" 3.75" W.With a few (in the making) imperfections this is truly a unique cup plate with lots of character. The transfer cloth when applied left an interesting in the making flaw in the design, it lookslike a tree branch crossing the upper left of the scene. There were two inclusions in the clay batch that were glazed over and fired. One is at 6 o'clock,on the outer edge (see Photo). The other is at 7 o'clock on the bridge (inside edge) left of the figures. These types of flaws were usually caused by an inclusion of organic matter in the clay batch burned out duringfiring, and left an indentation. Both are pin head size or less and do not detract.Cup plate is in perfect condition, with minor in the making flaws, no cracks chips or discoloration, with no glaze wear.Staffordshire England, Circa 1820-1830.Satisfaction Guaranteed
