CATALINA ISLAND STEP VASE is the classic stepped vase from Catalina in a great glaze and made from early red clay. The glaze transitions from a creamy opaque tan on the horizontal surfaces to a transparent golden brown on the vertical surfaces with a lot of drippiness in between. Size is 5" high and 6" in diameter. The bottom is boldly impressed CATALINA. Although a great looking vase, it unfortunately suffers from the all too common small glaze nicks and chips found on so many early Island pots. These seem to be limited to the depth of the glaze and not into the clay: one on the inside of the rim: one on one handle, two on the other; at least three on the edges of the steps; and two or three minor ones on the foot. Most of these are quite small--and most can be seen in the photos. No other damage, no repairs. NO RESERVE so please bid away.
