CATALOG OF RARE OLD VIOLINS VIOLAS AND VIOLINCELLOS ALSO BOWS OF RARE MAKES . Chicago: Lyon & Healy, October 1917 - 28th edition. Square octavo 7.75 x 10" in decorative card covers. 74pp plus a few ads bound in back. With 8 plates, 5 in color. Lyon and Healy were among the most prominent violin dealers in the world. They offered masterpieces of rare stringed instruments, by Guarnerius, Stradivarius, the Amatis, etc. However, they also offered violins of lesser quality but still very fine for those unable to afford the higher priced instruments. This catalog describes hundreds of instruments - maker, year, varnish, tone, etc.Plates illustrate a 1710 Joseph filius Andreas Guarnerius, the 1744 Santus Seraphin, a 1740 Laurentius Guadagnini, the Latin inscription inside the Henry IV Antonius and Hieronimus Amati, interior back of the Henry IV Amati, the Amati Henry IV from three sides, a 1717 Stradivarius, an assemblage of bows.CONDITION: Good. Small chip at top of spine, minor edgewear and soiling. Plates are in nice shape. Pages are clean and unmarked.
