Up for auction is a Brand Book of the Western South Dakota Stock Growers' Assocation (cattle, horses, mules, asses). Incorporated 1893 - Sixth Edition printed in Omaha, Nebraska, FB Festner. It is a bit worn - but in nice condition for its age. Please refer to pictures for condition. As far as I can see: one page loose (picture 10), none missing, no tabs missing, no handwriting within the pages -- other than the signatures noted later in this narrative (and an old price of $50, written on a spot where the original paper is missing, as if a label had been torn off -- see picture 6) The first few pages includes a listing of 1901 officers & a 'letter' from F.M. Stewart, Secretary, that includes the heading Buffalo Gap, S.D. May 14, 1901 . It is because of this information that I base the date of 1901. When I hold it in my hands and carefully thumb through the pages -- it 'feels' as if I am holding a book from 1901.....the first time I opened this book, I actually got misty-eyed, thinking about the history I was holding. The signature in the front of C.P. Jordan 'looks like' lovely old time penmanship. Another signature in pencil reads: L. B. Munroe, Rose Bud,So. Dakota in pencil is on a page that has come loose. Along the spine on one page, is a stamped date of May 9, 1958 -- could that be when L.B. Munroe recd the book? A pink correction read more
