Indian war period McClellan Saddle complete with bags.The saddle is a 12" seat and has the1859 size plate.The guard plates are the smaller 59 type.The iron stirrup hanger on the left side is clearly marked G B ,The army sub inspector George Booth indicating it is a govt. tree.All the saddle hardware is brass.The only piece missing is the saddlebag stud which has broken off.The pommel also has a saddlebag stud mounted probably for pistol holsters.The rigging is the typical 1859 rigging with a spaded D ring.One of the quarter straps had been repaired at one time.The cinch is like the standard 59 but is all leather as were many officer cinches and in great condition.Both billet straps are full length and sound.The pommel has three original coat straps.All seams on the saddle are in great condition.The pommel and cantle seams are not an exposed seam like production saddles.The person that made this saddle was a real craftsman and used a seam similar to the ones on saddlebags.You can see it in the photo of the cantle.The saddle bags are the standard 59 bags with the original iron buckles on the closure but were modified for use on an 1872 type saddle by adding rings and straps to the sides to attach to the D rings.They have the same type buckles as the coat straps on this saddle.The bags have all solid seams and the seat is strong.I found read more
