Looking North on Linden St., Fort Collins, Colo.." THE P.C. CO.,DENVER, CO. #507. Great early 20th century monotone chromolithographicpostcard of a setting along the lines of these older railroads, cast in brown according to one of the vogues of the day. Scene depicts a view north on Linden Street in Fort Collins, Colorado. Cars, carriages and bicycles, and t on the right is a car of the Fort Collins Metropolitan Railway - the #1460 College Avenue. Fort Collins began life as Camp Collins in the mid-1860s, to protect the rerouted Overland Mail Route through the area. That flooded in 1864, and the decision was made to designate Fort Collins in a drier location. It is also the home to Colorado State University, and its main products have been stone quarrying, sugar beet farming and sheep. The new Colorado Central Railroad came through c. 1877, and was replaced by the Colorado & Southern in 1898. The Denver & Interurban, a subsidiary of the C&S, built the Fort Collins Municipal Railway in 1907 - as part of its expansion along the Front Range. One of the routes it ran was to events at the County Fairgrounds. Great detail and tones, photo and lithographic work. A little rare, I think.
