You are looking at probably the rarest modern era US Army pair of pants you could ever hope to aquire. As most militaria collectors are aware, in 2004 the U.S. Army had manufactured a limited run of DCU (desert camoflauge uniform) 3-color desert camoflauge uniforms in a new configuration which incorporated many of the features previously the domain of individually customized Special Forces uniforms such as the slant/angled velcro closure chest pockets, upper sleeve pockets and mandarin collar. This uniform is known as the Close Combat Uniform, or CCU and were produced in small numbers for issue to 'Stryker Brigade' elements of the 2nd Infantry Division and the 25th Infantry Division and used in Iraq during 2004. During 2003, as part of the design process the U.S. Army at Natick, various camoflauge patterns, uniform configurations and various features were tried on individual CCU shirts and pants including the standard Woodland camoflauge pattern, 3-color desert pattern, a bizarre gray and black camoflauge pattern and the Scorpion pattern. A very few early examples for review at Natick were made in various camoflauge patterns and this is one of those rare prototype pants, unworn and unused and made for review of the CCU features, to see a complete uniform in the Woodland pattern and to review the quality of the construction, the utility of the proposed improvements and look of the uniform. This is an EXTREMELY RARE experimental prototype CCU pants which were manufactured as a model/prototype for presentation to U.S. Army contract review and inspection specialists at the Natick facility by the contractor so that the U.S. Army could review a finished example of a CCU pair of pants in the Woodland camo pattern. I aquired a very small number of these prototype pants, one of which is hand tagged with the date - Novemeber, 2003 hand written on the inside. One of the Scorpion shirts I got actually has the white chalk marks showing the proposed angle of the upper sleeve pocket and all of the uniforms I have are brand new, unworn, crisp and brand new. The Woodland pattern prototype pants are a size large long and is tagged as DAAD16-03-F-0160 "CLOSE COMBAT UNIFORM (CCU)" and is made for a waist measuring between 35" to 39" and an inseam measuring from 32 1/2" to 35 1/2". Interestingly, the pants have NO rear pockets - there are no stiching holes which would be present if the rear pockets had been removed so there were never any rear pockets sewn on the rear of these pants. The pants feature front slash hand pockets, the velcro closure angled side cargo pockets with the black elasticated pull cord and plastic adjuster which was adopted for the ACU uniform, lower leg velcro closure small pockets on each lower leg, velcro closure pockets for the padded knee inserts (not included), black ribbon ankle adjusting pull tabs, button fly, and waist belt loops. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO SAY ABOUT THESE PANTS EXCEPT THAT IT IS LIKELY THAT VERY, VERY, VERY FEW OF THESE OFFICIAL NATICK REVIEW PROTOTYPES WERE EVER PRODUCED AND ARE THEREFORE UNBELIEVABLY RARE!
