No he didn't invent baseball, although he did popularize it among his troops. Doubleday may very well have fired the first volley from Sumter in reply to the Confederate bombardment of that fort. Doubleday also briefly commanded I Corps when Reynolds was felled at Gettysburg. Highly prized card by both Civil War and baseball collectors. This card is beautiful with an E Anthony backmark, photo from a Brady negative.
