CDV: PRINCE ALFRED with HUNTING RIFLE by DISDERI

A carte-de-visite portrait of Queen Victoria’s second son, Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, seen dressed for hunting with a long-barrelled shotgun in his hands.

Photographed by the London branch of the great French photographer A.A.E. Disdéri.

Condition: please see scans. The print presents a fair amount of spotting, mainly in the area of the background but some intruding on the area of the sitter’s clothes. The print also shows a loss of tone at two of its edges but the majority of the image has very good tonal range. The mount is clean and firm, with crisp edges and sharp corners. T’s a blindstamp with the royal coat-of-arms at the upper left-hand corner.

Dimensions: The dimensions of a standard carte-de-visite are approx. 4.1” by 2.5” (105 mm by 63 mm).
