A carte-de-visite portrait of Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar (1794-1868), the ruling Maharajah of the princely state of Mysore in India. Also known as Krishnaraja Wodeyar III, he belonged to the Wodeyar dynasty and ruled his state for nearly seventy years, from 25 June 1799 to 27 March 1868. He is known for his contribution and patronage to different arts and music during his reign. At his death, he was succeeded by his adopted son, Chamaraja Wodeyar. Photographed by Orr and Barton of Bangalore in India. Condition: please see scans. The print shows one dark stain near its lower left-hand corner and a small amount of damage at its upper right-hand corner. T are also a couple of small imperfections in the area of the background but the print is otherwise in excellent condition, with very good tonal range. The mount is firm, solid and reasonably clean. An inked inscription verso in a period hand reads: ‘Rajah of Mysore / 1866.’ Dimensions: The dimensions of a standard carte-de-visite are approx. 4.1” by 2.5” (105 mm by 63 mm).
