Lovely To Behold Antiques & Treasures A Wonderful Vintage Clear Celluloid Chain Polished Natural Shell Pendant Necklace with Hand Painted Palm Trees and Flamingos . This very fun vintage necklace is comprised of a clear celluloid plastic link chain with a simple clear plastic large ring closure. Hanging from the chain are nine slightly graduated natural polished shells on metal jump rings. Five shells have hand painted tropical scenes. Two are decorated with a pair of flamingos and three with a pair of palm trees . The shells have been polished down to the mother of pearl creating a beautiful subtle creamy opalescent rainbow effect and are soft and smooth to the touch. These decorated shells very closely resemble the hand painted shells with palm trees used in a brooch by Miriam Haskell, featured in 'Miriam Haskell Jewelry' by Cathy Gordon and Sheila Pamfiloff, on page 152. We believe this piece to be from the 1940's. This vintage necklace is in very good condition. The lucite plastic chain is completely intact with no cracks or breaks. The structure and surface of the shells are free from any breaks, cracks or scratches. The edge of two of the smallest unpainted shells, highest up on the chain, have a small ding on one and two small dings on the other. The miniature little paintings on the shells are mostly still intact with just a few little thin missing spots of paint and t T are three patinaed jump rings that are slightly larger and thinner than all the others. They are most probably not original to the piece and were replacements some time ago. The necklace measures 16 1/2 inches in length. The decorated shells range from 1 1/2 inches, for the largest front pendant, to 1 1/4, for the smallest ones. The total weight of the piece is 2 ounces. A fabulous and very collectible celluloid and natural shell tropical necklace. * We have found, enjoyed and appreciated these items and now we offer them to you.
