Youare bidding on a very rare and hard to find celluloid photo album from the Victorian era that features delicate child like fairies. One has a arrow behind her ear as she appears to be typing a letter. The other is knelling on the ground in front of her and appears to be picking flowers. I have been told that this wonderful art work is that of Ellen Clapsaddle .
Ellen Clapsaddle (1865-1934) is one of the best known American postcardartists. Her work is known for its daintiness and her postcards of children and Halloween are especially prized. The celluloid is in good shape for its age. T is slight crazing to the celluloid in places, but as you can see by the many pictures I have displayed, it does not distract from the sheer beauty of this album. The spine and all 4 corners are covered in a brown cloth material that is fraying in some places. But the spine, though loose as with most of these old albums, is completely intact and holds all pages together. The clasp has been Broken. The back is covered in celluloid and t appears to be a ink stain on the back - please see the picture. T is some water stains and tears to the photo slots were the original photos were removed (the tears are minimal in a album this old - see picture). The album will hold 20 photos that measure approximately 4 X 6" , and 16 photos that measure approximately 2 X 3 1/2". This album is not perfect and I have tried to list and show its flaws, but is still a stunning album to add to your collection. THIS IS A 5 DAY AUCTION! BID EARLY!
