This lot contains a cover from New York to Johannesburg, South Africa, on November 9, 1942. The route of this cover is not completely clear (at least not to me) but it was likely flown by the follow-on service for FAM 22 and its extensions operated by the US Army Air Transport Command. This service has been thesubject of numerous recent articles in the Journal of the American Philatelic Society and the Airpost Journal (America Airmail Society) earlier this year. Cover included: 11/9/1942; New York Postmark. The airmail envelope is addressed to Johannesburg, South Africa, and franked with three C29's. It has a typed marking reading "VIA AFRICA ROUTE" and the South African Censor tape (in both English and Afrikaans) and censor stamp in purple. Condition is as shown in the pics. It is in quite good shape for such covers and has been opened at the top. I am listing a number of covers either flown or commemorating flights every week. I usually distribute the listings between numerous categories, so please check my other listings ( other items ). At these prices, this is a great way to fill in the blanks in your collection or begin a collection in a new area. Shipping in the US is either by first class mail or by first class parcel, depending on value. Shipping and handling for this lot is $1.75. Shipping to Canada is $2.75 and to read more
