Command, Railsounds, Magne-traction, Dual Pullmor Motors ==O gauge==O-31 Operation== Lionel # 18585, Blt 1999, LIKE NEW and in the ORIGINAL BOX In the closing years of the LAST CENTURY, as Lionel started the COUNTDOWN TO THE MILLENNIUM, the company introduced a series of three engines = THE CENTENNIAL SERIES. Each engine (and related rolling stock) offered a Lionel marketing theme from days gone by. Offered here is Centennial #3 Lionel SD-40 Diesel Command, Railsounds, Dual Pullmor Motors + The Centennial #3 Diesel offered a paint scheme and theme from 1946. And the slogan on the side of the engine reads The Finest Model Electric Trains in the World And many of us agree! This engine is equipped with the best technology from 1999, but before we make note of these features, let’s think out side the box a bit! IS THIS SD-40 A SECRET CHRISTMAS THEME ENGINE? Maybe, Maybe Not. But take a look at the color scheme. Red White and Light Green. Imagine this engine at the front of a string of the annual Christmas Boxcars, or any of the colorful Christmas themed action cars from recent years (parade aquarium car, jumping reindeer, metal dump cars, mistletoe chase cars). This engine will look super at the head of a CHRISTMAS TRAIN. Consider these points: #1 Paint scheme is Red Green and white! Add the fact that the engine is running on the LIONEL road name (perfect)! Oh yes = the engine is equipped with a SNOW PLOW nose, ready to keep the tracks clean on the way to your house from the North Pole! #2 Command Controlled with railsounds Many of us have lamented that there is no remote control engine for our extensive list of Christmas rolling stock on loops of track devoted to Trainmaster Command operation. #3 Powerful Dual Pullmor Motors w Magnetraction The long runs of Christmas cars need more power than any of the “set” engines that have been offered. This engine has HO-HO-HO UMPF! Go HMmmmmmm for a few moments, give it some thought. Of course you can always run it as the catalogue conceived – a Count Down to the Millennium Centennial Series engine. NOW, About the SD-40 DIESEL and Under the HOOD Let’s start by saying again = The SD-40 Diesel engine is beefy. It is powered by DUAL PULLMOR MOTORS and is equipped with MAGNE-TRACTION gripping system. Other top shelf millennium technology includes: Trainmaster Command remote control operation (or you can run the engine in traditional transformer mode). RAILSOUNDS with Crewtalk and TowerCom (all the other goodies too = squealing brakes, coupler noises, horn, bell, diesel start up and shutdown). Two die cast Electro-couplers, trucks, pilots, and fuel tank, metal hand rails, and stamped metal frame. Directional lighting, operating headlight, Interior cab illumination, and OSCILLATING DITCH LIGHTS. The engine measures 17 inches, O-31 and wider Operation. CONDITION: Our engine is LIKE NEW. From a private collection and the engine has made a modest number of thoughtful loops around the track (hmmm maybe around the Christmas tree?). The body is clean and new looking. The trucks show some run time. We have tested all operating features. THE ENGINE WORKS GREAT! The packaging is Like New + too. Clean solid inner Styrofoam liner, instruction booklet present, and clean outer Lionel box (some sun fade on one end flap along with the original $600 price tag). The engine was offered in the 1999 Preview to the Millennium Catalogue and priced at $600. And 2007 Greenberg Guide values this engine at $435.
