You are bidding on a neat old Central Pacific Railroad link and pin coupler set. This set dates back to the late 1860's until the late 1870'swhen the Knuckle coupler was introduced. These old couplers linked the old rail cars together. This was an extremely dangerous job fora railroad worker because it had to be done when the train was moving. I have read that many railroad workers lost fingers, hands, and eventheir life in some cases when coupling rail cars together. There are several great websites that detail the evolution of rail car coupling. The websiteaddresses are: /essays/couplers-brakes.html/Museum/Ephemera/Link-Pin_Couplers.htmlThis old coupler set is a great part of railroad history. They are in great condition for their age. Many of the links and pins found are broken, this set is in nice condition and well preserved. Thanks for looking. See my other items.
