We are told that these four ceramic weights date from the Taisho period (1912-1926), and that they were used by dyers to weigh down the ends of still-wet dyed textiles, although we haven't been able to confirm either claim (although the age seems right to us). Written in blue glaze on one edge of each is the weights' size, "26" and "31". The "26" weighs a little over 100g, while the "31" weighs about 125g.
T is no particular damage other than general light wear-and-tear. T are no chips, cracks, or fractures. T are some maker's irregularities that come from (apparently) having been handmade or semi-handmade, and each has a dark patch on one edge w it was set into fine sand so that it would stand up in the kiln. The "26" measures about W2 5/16" (59mm) X D7/8" (23mm), while the "31" measures about W2 7/16" (61mm) X D7/8" (23mm) . This item is set to ship via Air Mail, and should arrive within 7-14 days after being posted. General Note about Shipping:For all our items, we set the shipping according to the fastest and most economical method. Generally, we set it as Air Mail if the shipping charge will be around fifteen dollars or less, and as SAL (economy airmail) if it would be over fifteen dollars via regular airmail. Nonetheless, we are always happy to change shipping methods if faster (and thus more expensive) or cheaper (and thus slower) shipping is desired. The shipping options available are (from fastest and most expensive to slowest and least expensive): EMS, Air Mail, SAL (economy airmail), Surface. We ship at least once and very often twice a week, and so most of the time items will be in the mail within no more than 7 days after we have received payment. We also always send a brief note informing buyers when their items have shipped.
