A small painted aboriginal ceremonial shield from Arukun, Cape York, N.Queensland. Soft wood, painted with natural pigments. From one of the most remote aboriginal communities in Australia. Old tag identifies artist as Reg Yunkaporta. This may have been traded to the local art center, which is known for its rich aesthetic tradition. A small area of loss at one end, some tiny holes which appear to be old insect depravation, now stable. Circa mid-century. Rare.
