ANTIQUE TIGER OAK SECRETARY DESK Up for sale is an ANTIQUE TIGER OAK SECRETARY DESK. This secretary in great shape with only a few defects to note that will be listed in the paragraphs below. T are several features to this piece that make it unique to others of this style. As you take a look through our photo gallery below you will notice the exceptional carving detail, beveled mirrors, leaded glass doors and a convex glass door. We have come across a few of these models with the convex glass door that have plain mirrors, flat doors and glued on scroll work. Some may have one of the features this one does but you get it all!!!
This piece measures 69" tall x 40 1/2" wide by 16" deep at the base. The piece features a beautiful tiger oak wood grain pattern. Starting at the top of the piece you have two custom made bevel glass mirrors. These mirrors are in good shape with a little bit of light scratches and light spotting on them. The mirror on the right has a small part of the mirror film peeling back into the glass in the corner of the mirror as shown. In front of the right mirror t is a small 6” x 5” mini shelf with a carved front. The top also features some very nice deep carvings. we will address what we feel is the biggest flaw of the piece. The center of the finial has been broken as shown in the pictures (thanks to Mayflower movers). In an attempt to hide the damage, the piece was at least kept with the secretary. T are a few small chips of wood missing in the front from this break but we feel that it could be carefully repaired with minimal reveal. Going further down the right side of the piece we have an 18 ½ x 9” hinged leaded glass door. A few of these pieces are loose but do not come out. Next we have the desk portion, which includes a fold down door that has a fancy carved design on the outside. This door is missing the lock plate but the lock itself still works. Inside the desk is a divided storage area with a small drawer. Inside the drawer is a sticker of some sort that will take a little work to get off. Everything else in this area is very clean! Below the desk we have 3 drawers. The top drawer has a vertical serpentine front while the two bottom drawers have a flat face. All of the insides and hardware are in great condition. Moving to the left side of the piece, we have a 49” tall x 18” wide convex glass hinged door. Inside you will find 3 adjustable solid wood shelves with a matching round routed front. These shelves sit on a primitive style metal pegs that are shown in one of the close up pictures. All of the hardware appears to be original. Like the other areas, the inside of this section is also well kept. At the bottom of the piece we have some very deeply carved claw feet in the front and standard square legs in the back. The sides of this piece are in great condition as well. As we get to the original back of the piece, t is a bit of delaminating on the veneer. T are a few spots the top layer of the veneer is missing which we have shown. The top black pieces are the backing for the mirrors. This piece also includes the key shown, which is believed to be original. As you look through our photo gallery below, you will find barring the few defects mentioned and shown that this is an exceptional piece. Because of this we have reduced the asking price accordingly.
