Challengers of the Unknown Oct./Nov. 1959; T may be no sweeter or scarcer sight in vintage comics than to see incredibly well preserved DC comics from about 1966 and before, with the further back you go increasing the scarcity gradually. This is a fantastic VF+ 8.5 copy (graded previously by 2 Overstreet advisors and confirmed wholeheartedly by myself). This book meets all the criteria of a Very Fine and gets a big PLUS from one visually overwhelming attribute: unbelievable thick lustrous cover gloss. You have your typical light accumulation of border wear along the spine and at other isolated spots, but the midcover area is just pristine (smooth and wrinkle/impression-free) and has that fresh spraypaint look. Gorgeous cover surfaces. T is what appears to have been something stuck to a small dab of retailer's paint on the top edge of the back cover, appears to be a small piece of frayed blue paper. At any rate, something that is a non-wear defect and when you see it you will realize it is of little consequence. What a great cover on this 1959 gem! This stellar early issue of a classic Silver-Age DC title has 2 complete Challengers stories: "The Four Faces of Doom!" and "The Cave Man Beast". I can't imagine that this copy isn't in the top 5% or so of all existing copies of this issue. A beautiful treasure that is incredibly hard to find! If you're looking for a nicer copy than this it may be a LONG time before you find it IF you ever do! Overstreet value in grade $270; Check out the supersized scans! This comic comes with a certificate signed by the owner of VCI. It states the grade and has a small space w some grading comments are made, and a VCI seal icon is also on the certificate. All certified VCI graded comics come in a Mylite 2 bag with a fullback acid-free backboard. All certified comics also come with micro-chamber paper inside the front and back covers, just like the CGC uses in every book they encase. This paper absorbs the chemical deterioration that comes with the aging of the paper and inks, so these certified books feature some very nice and fairly expensive storage supplies! High grade Golden and Silver-Age comics from major superhero titles alone have increased anyw from 75% to almost 200% in the last 5 years. The demand will always dwarf the supply available of these high grade treasures! VCI grades are based on 15 years of collecting and dealing experience by the owner of VCI, and are backed up by a money back guarantee and the feedback comments of VCI customers. VCI grading involves being as specific as possible by using each tenth of a decimal point- i.e., 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, etc. VCI grading represents the most accurate possible grade in the subjective opinion of the owner of VCI, Jon Sullivan. Although observation of grades given by the CGC and other comic grading experts are taken into consideration in VCI grading, I do not represent the CGC in any way, and no VCI grade is guaranteed to be an equivalent of a grade given by the CGC or any other comic dealer.
