Chamberlain Worcester oval latter or dinner service dish. Made England circa 1840. Approximately 18inches long and 15 1/4 inches wide. 2 1/8 inches deep. Gadroon edged, scalloped rim with blue border richly decorated with 4 reserves handpainted with flowers, each surrounded by very rich, raised gilding. The center of the platter is handpainted with a magnificent boquet of flowers. Marked underneath with Chamberlain's Worcester mark, Royal Porcelain Manufactured and New Bond Street London. Also had impressed mark: CHAMBERLAINS. Condition is good with minor wear to gilding on rim and very minor scratches on blue border. Geoffrey Godden's book on Chamberlain Worcester has a 'photograph of an almost identical dish, page 162, circa 1837-1842, but only 14 inches long, "reputedly part of a service presented by Queen Victoria to the Grand Duchess of Hesse.
