Charatan "Knightsbridge" pipe, shape 2651, in original cloth slip and box. Unused, never smoked. I believe this pipe is twenty to thirty years old. It belonged to a relative of mine, who owned enormous numbers of pipes. He probably bought this one late in life, and just never got around to using it.

I will be selling in the near future a variety of items of sportingequipment, militaria, knives, optics, oriental art, nicotiana, and personal effects and memorabilia from the estate of a gentleman. The former owner (a relative) attended Yale and led a colorful life.

He was a naturalist, sportsman, historian, as well as an Orientalist and student of the martial arts. He collected arms and armour, and was generally a connoisseur well known within his circle of acquaintance for his appreciation of the finer things of life.

His wardrobe and personal effects were acquired internationally from the finest shops. He left behind an enormous library and several large and diverse collections. I am forbidden by testamentary instructions to quote the Times obituary or otherwise to identify him, suffice it to say that the funeral (though private) was attended by sinister figures from more than one foreign intelligence service, a number of heads of state, and several (much younger) well-known female film personalities who were seen in the end weeping disconsolately by his grave-side.
