Offered is a scarce piece by well known Southern studio potter Charles Counts, (1934-2000). Counts worked in several Southern states as well as Africa. This lidded jar is inscribed "Voyage of Discovery" and may reference his trips to Africa. The jar stands nine inches tall to the top of the lid and about 6 1/2 inches across at its widest point. The jar is heavily carved. With the exception of a small stone blowout seen to the right of the figure's foot, the piece is in excellent condition, with no flakes, chips or cracks.
