This is the very rare Charles Dickens Centenary of Death Official Medal struck by the Royal Mint for The Dickens Fellowship in 1970. This superb medal was designed and sculpted by reknowned sculptor Paul Vincze . This medal is the large size version struck in .925 silver with a gilt finish as issued. It is hallmarked "Silver" on it's edge, and this is most likely sterling silver. The medal measures 63mm (2.5 inches) in diameter, and it weighs 120 grams. This is 3.57 ounces of pure silver. The bullion value is over $50, but the numismatic value is much much higher. This medal was issued in a very limited edition of only 500, and my example is number 278. The condition of the medal is very choice toned uncirculated still contained in it's original Royal Mint case of issue complete with it's original signed certificate and internal packing material. Mr. Vincze personally signed each certificate in blue fountain pen, and each certificate's serial number was hand typed. Paul Vincze medals with signed certificates are rare and very hard to find. Don't miss out on this hard to find medal at a very low starting price below melt. U.S. buyers pay $7.00 for priority mail and packing material. Canadian buyers pay $7.00 for first class international and packing material. Overseas buyers pay $12.00 for first class international and packing material. International registration is an additional $12.00, and it is highly recommended. Due to problems with the mail to Italy and The People's Republic of China, the winning bidders from these two countries will have their items shipped by either United Parcel Service or Federal Express at a much higher rate.
