Description : 19th century Carte de visite of Charles Dickens (1812-1870), considered by many as one of history's greatest novelists . Author of Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, A Tale of Two Cities among many others. This image of an older Dickens is from a Southern American collection and bears a Civil War era Revenue Tax Stamp. Image backstamped C. D. Fredricks & Co., New York. Condition; overall spotty foxing. He was also a founder of the Charlotte Opera House.
