This is the first edition, first printing, of Charles Dickens' Christmas classic, THE CRICKET ON THE HEARTH, published in 1846 by Bradbury and Evans in London. There are two pages of ads at the end of this book (after page 174), containing, on the first page, an ad for Oliver Twist that starts with two lines in italics saying that the book will be released on January 1st, and without the heading "New Edition of Oliver Twist". This is a definitive first printing point.Overall this copy is in superior condition, perhaps in very good condition. There is no writing throughout, the gilt page ends have no fading whatsoever, and the binding is tight. The spine ends have some chipping. But the gilt n the front panel is bright and crisp -- in really fine condition. And the book has a very slight lean. So this is a superior copy of this nice little book, great to spread the Christmas spirit.Postage is free in the continental USA if you win this item.I've relisted this item. I lowered the reserve so that it is now closer to the high bid in the first listing.
