They say that sweetgrass sometimes grows twice. It grows in the Southern coastal states from North Carolina to Texas, along the dunes by the ocean and along marsh boundaries. It then grows in the hands of a small but talented group of artisans who turn the reeds into utilitarian containers and elegant works of art. This is an ancient African art that has been handed down for many generations. Offered here is a Vintage lidded basket, from Charleston, S.C. It's been used for display purposes only and measures 12" wide and 11" high, very nice condition. Materials used for these baskets include palmetto, pine needles, sweet grass and bull rush.
