I am historical items plus coin and banknote dealer. I do not get many genuine autographs of greats like Charlie Chaplin. Upon searching the internet I see prices range from the sublime to the rediculous with ranges being hundreds to up to $4000 on one site. MY story is this- I bought a number of photographs - ALL unnsigned except for ONE. It was in the envelope I have put the scan up of (scan 3) - an envelope from famous script writer Judd Bernard of "Point Blank" fame. This envelope is dated August 4th, 1956 and postmarked beverly Hills. This is w I found this photgraph- in an envelope addressed to Errol Flynn- the cosmic joke? Flyn was staying at a Hotel in England in the town of "Maidenhead"! In any case...this was the period Charlie Chaplin was trying to send up the McCarthyism which drove him back to Europe and he was producing "A King In New York". Now, the photo reads "Keep your ambitious flame burning- "CHUCK"- Charlie Chaplin. I don't know if the recipient was called "Chuck" or Chaplin was referring to himself in an American sort of a way..whatever the case- it is out of the ordinary. The photo is NOT a GLOSSY- it is an 8" by 10" MATTE finish. On the bottom border some later wrote "Hallo! Charlie Chaplin" in black felt pen and then "Keep this" underlined (in pencil). . The photo has no hole and no tears. It is not dated but the picture IS contemporary with Chaplin as he looks during the period mentiond. ANY comments welcomed. I feel that- considering prices being asked for Chaplin's autographs and autographed pictures that I will set a BUY IT NOW that will make even Ol' Mother Hubbard run to HER cupboard to grab some cash from her stash!
