Up for bid is an original movie poster for Charlie Chaplin's "The Vagabond" released in 1916. Our dealer found this poster in the back of a framed print. This lithograph was for the 1916 movie The Vagabond, starring Charlie Chaplin and directed by him. Unfortunately this Chaplin piece had been cut down to be used as backing in another frame. That print wasn't anyw near as nice as this poster.
The poster is marked across the bottom © 1916 Lone Star Corporation and Greenwich Litho Co. It measures 22 inches tall and now measures 11 inches wide. We estimate that it would have been about 14 inches wide originally. Fortunately most of what was lost when it was trimmed was the border area and the last letters of the title. The majority of the design is still intact but t are some spots on the right side of Chaplin's coat that do show. They can be seen in the close up just under his hand holding the violin. It is printed on light weight cardboard and shows some wear and soiling around the edges, especially to the bottom left corner. The cardboard has become somewhat brittle with age so it must be handled carefully. The major portion of the image area remaining is in nice condition and the color is still bright and strong.
