Late Victorian Mahogany Miniature Chest Made in a rich red mahogany, this piece reflects the austerity of the age in its unadorned design. At approximately 10" x 4¼" x 11½" it could have been made to demonstrate the appearance of the full size article or simply for use by children. Whichever is the case, it has been well made with the drawers constructed using neat, little dovetails. Each drawer is numbered in pencil, on its base, to ensure that they return to their correct location. Typical of the fashion of the time, each drawer is also provided with a small turned wooden knob. Standing on four turned feet, the piece shows no obvious signs of wear or the usual damage that might be expected of an item of this age. The sides have been nicely rounded and the drawers still fit neatly into their positions. Over time, the wood has acquired a good patina which shows the item to good effect. A nice piece that can still both give pleasure and be used today. Postage and packing will be $29 to UK and $69 to USA.
