This Chelsea is very special for several reasons: MUCH more rare and desirable "red" Naval Bronze (sometimes called "gunmetal") case. Naval bronze is a much more expensive and tough material than brass. Bronze is never lacquered, yet stays bright, with a glorious golden color that photos can't do justice to. It has been without being polished for about 20 years, and wasn't polished for the present photos.This clock is MUCH BIGGER and rarer than the ones usually available, being 10 1/8" diameter at front bezel and 10 5/8" at rear flange. Military-time (24 hour) dial, rather than the common 12-hour dial. SWEEP center seconds hand, rather than the usual small seconds. Micrometer-type fast/slow adjustment on the dial. Front glass original. Bezel hinged, rather than being the clumsy screw-off type. Has official US Navy serial number (41653E) on the dial, plus has the Chelsea number (373019) on both the movement AND on the outer back side of the case, dating it to about 1942 or 1943. The personal history of the clock could probably be researched.

And, by the way, it runs great and keeps perfect time. No cosmetic defects. Original glass is perfect. Dial is perfect (that's just glare in the photos, NOT haze on the glass or dial). Do I really want to sell this one? It's been in my collection for years, but not being an *admiral* I don't really deserve to own something this *admirable*.
